The aim of the degree programme in nursing is to provide the student with skills and knowledge so that (s)he can manage with different tasks of nursing that require special expert skills. The student is also able to develop nursing in multi- professional work community within primary health care and specialized medical care. The bachelor of nursing can work in a variety of health care settings that require special nursing skills . The bachelor of nursing is also able to take into account the patient's health and nursing needs. The student that has obtained the bachelor's degree in public health nursing can , in additon to previously mentioned , work with different tasks related to health promotion and maintaining public health. The students that have completed the degree programme in nursing work mainly as nursing experts in a variety of units within specialized medical care, primary health care and elderly care. The students that have chosen to do their advanced studies in public health nursing, work with health promotion in primary health care.

Monitors the patient´s condition, symptoms and the effectiveness of medical care in the treatment of the most common deseases and is able to make neccessary conclusion. Examines, assesses, monitors and secures the vital function of the patient. Prevent infections. Manages the most essential examination and treatment methods, and the safe and right use of the necessary machinery and equipment suitable for immediate care. Uses the examination results in treatment and follow-up. Supports the wellbeing and coping of the patient´s/client´s mental health and assists him/her whenever necessary. Alleviates the patient´s/client´s pain and suffering in different life situations, also in end-of-life care. Provides first aid in various care and operative environments as well as gives both manual, machine and intensive resuscitation within the limits of his/her authority. Skills in medical treatment


Implememts safe medical treatment (pharmacotherapy) as prescribed by a medical doctor and monitors the effects and effectiveness of medical tratment. Is able to do medical and dose calculations and possesses the knowledge of clinical pharmacology essential for nursing patients of different age. Manages the preparative procedures for intravenous therapy, endovascular treatment and blood transfusion, is able to prepare a patient during and after IV-therapy and blood transfusion. Is able to cannulate the peripheral vein and implement IV-theraby. Implements intravenous and medical treatment to the central vein. Recognises the risks of pharmacotherapy and is able to use information on unexpected effects of medical treatments in order to development processes of pharmacotherapy.

Is able to establish and foster confidential and open client relationships, which are long-lasting if required, takes into account clients’ cultural background when planning and implementing the public recognises clients’ growth and developmental phases in relation to the human life cycle, masters the follow-up of clients’ health, growth and develop-ment; recognises resources and risk factors and knows how to act according health nurse’s work, masters evidence-based practices of public health nursing at individual, family, group and community level and uses them in a client-oriented way, knows how to utilise applications of health technology.

Degree program
S-SH  Health Care, Nursing
The aim of the degree programme in nursing is to provide the student with skills and knowledge so that (s)he can manage with different tasks of nursing that require special expert skills. The student is also able to develop nursing in multi- professional work community within primary health care and specialized medical care.
The bachelor of nursing can work in a variety of health care settings that require special nursing skills . The bachelor of nursing is also able to take into account the patient's health and nursing needs. The student that has obtained the bachelor's degree in public health nursing can , in additon to previously mentioned , work with different tasks related to health promotion and maintaining public health.
The students that have completed the degree programme in nursing work mainly as nursing experts in a variety of units within specialized medical care, primary health care and elderly care. The students that have chosen to do their advanced studies in public health nursing, work with health promotion in primary health care.

SH5  Clinical competence
Assumes responsibility for the patient´s/client´s physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs and safety. Monitors the patient´s condition, symptoms and the effectiveness of medical care in the treatment of the most common deseases and is able to make neccessary conclusion. Examines, assesses, monitors and secures the vital function of the patient. Prevent infections. Manages the most essential examination and treatment methods, and the safe and right use of the necessary machinery and equipment suitable for immediate care. Uses the examination results in treatment and follow-up. Supports the wellbeing and coping of the patient´s/client´s mental health and assists him/her whenever necessary. Alleviates the patient´s/client´s pain and suffering in different life situations, also in end-of-life care. Provides first aid in various care and operative environments as well as gives both manual, machine and intensive resuscitation within the limits of his/her authority. Acts as a nurse in crises and emergency situations according to valid instructions. Is able to use various instruments and aids in a safe and ergonomic way.Is able to estimate the need for holistic care.
SH6  Skills in medical treatment
Implememts safe medical treatment (pharmacotherapy) as prescribed by a medical doctor and monitors the effects and effectiveness of medical tratment. Is able to do medical and dose calculations and possesses the knowledge of clinical pharmacology essential for nursing patients of different age. Manages the preparative procedures for intravenous therapy, endovascular treatment and blood transfusion, is able to prepare a patient during and after IV-therapy and blood transfusion. Is able to cannulate the peripheral vein and implement IV-theraby. Implements intravenous and medical treatment to the central vein. Recognises the risks of pharmacotherapy and is able to use information on unexpected effects of medical treatments in order to development processes of pharmacotherapy.
