International students are eligible for Student Financial Aid from the State of Finland if they have lived in Finland at least two years for some other purpose than studies, and their residence in Finland is regarded to be permanent. International students from the EU countries are not eligible for the Finnish State study support if studying is their only reason for coming to Finland.

Student Financial Aid consists of study support, housing supplement and government guaranteed student loans. The amount of aid depends on the type of school, age and marital status of the student and the mode of accommodation. Other aid which the student may receive as well as earned income during the months for which financial aid is granted is also taken into account.
