International Days in Vaasa, Finland 28th to 30th September, 2008

Last year Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu, University of Applied Sciences arranged an international week consisting of three different events. We were happy to host almost 30 international guests during that week. Encouraged by the positive experience last year, we have decided to continue on this tradition.

We are therefore now happy to inform you that we are organising the International Days event on 28th to 30th September 2008. We hope to see as many visiting lecturers and colleagues here as possible.

There are several goals for this week. First of all it is to give our students an international experience through the visiting lecturers. But another, very important goal is to increase the possibilities for networking among colleagues.

The International Week is arranged jointly by all the Faculty of Business Economics and Tourism and the Faculty of Health Care and Social Services at our university. The students will major in Business Economics, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Informatics, Social Services and Health Care.

We cordially invite lecturers and staff members from our partner universities to participate in this International Week. Lecturers are invited to send proposals for a one hour lecture. The lectures will be repeated a number of times to different groups. The students will participate in the lessons in mixed groups, so please, indicate in the registration form for which students your lesson is aimed for. We also ask the visiting lecturer/colleague to give a presentation on their countries and home university. The aim is to encourage our students to do an exchange period at your University.

The International Days starts with a social and cultural programme on Sunday 28th of September, when we will arrange sightseeing to the World Heritage Area.  The Merenkurkku region gained the World Heritage status in 2006.  Other programmes that will be offered are visits to TerraNova, Kuntsis Museum for contemporary Finnish Art, local sights. We will also offer you possibilities to field trips to the local industry and companies.

Enclosed you will find the registration form and details on hotels. Please, fill out the registration form before 15.6.2008 either by e-mail, regular mail or telefax to Ritva Mertaniemi. Contact details are below.
