How to Apply

The next application time for all applicants is 9 January - 24 January 2018.

2. Where can I apply to?

With filling in just one application form, you can apply for up to 6 different degree programmes conducted in English at Universities of Applied Sciences/ Universities all over Finland.

3. Apply online

The application period begins on 9 January and closes on 24 January 2018. Apply online at www.studyinfo.fi It is important to follow all the instructions! The application form is open only during the application period. From 9 January to 24 January the service is open 24 hours per day, except for short maintenance periods during the night. Online application closes on 24 January at 3.00 pm Finnish time (+2 hrs GMT). All online applications must be submitted before the closing time.

Applicants must have completed the qualification used in the application procedure in time for a copy of the certificate to reach the relevant university of applied sciences by the deadline specified in advance following the publication of admission results.

Applicants with a Finnish qualification certificate need not submit copies of their certificates, as only the certificates of those admitted as students will be checked. However, this does not apply to applicants who have taken the Finnish matriculation examination prior to 1990, as they will need to submit copies of their certificates to the admissions offices of the relevant universities of applied sciences by the deadline specified in advance.

In order to prove their eligibility, applicants with a non-Finnish qualification certificate must submit a copy of the final certificate used as the basis for application by the deadline specified in advance to the admissions office of the university of applied sciences marked as the first choice on their application form, which will then decide on each applicant’s eligibility for all UAS programmes they have selected. This is not applicable to applicants who complete their foreign qualification during the application period.

Those applying with an IB, EB or RP Diploma will need to submit certificate copies by a deadline specified in advance.

The required documents must arrive to Admission Services by the specified deadline, 7 February 2018 3p.m.

  • Applicants applying with completed foreign qualification
  • Applicants  applying with IB, EB or RP Diploma (* those graduating during the application period should submit a predicted grades or equivalent by 13 April 2018).
  • Applicants applying with Finnish matriculation examination certificate completed  prior to 1990.

Both applicants with Finnish and foreign qualification who are completing their qualifications during the application period need not submit a copy of their degree certificate until 10 July 2018 at 3p.m.

Original diplomas and original official translations will be checked at the beginning of studies from all admitted applicants

5. Entrance examinations

UAS will arrange entrance examinations in April. If you are invited to an examination, you will receive an invitation only by email. Therefore always use our own email adress when applying!  Also make sure that you have enough space in your inbox and make sure that the email address provided in the online application form is correct.  More information about entrance examinations.

6. SAT-test

7. Results

You will receive the results of your application by the end of June - early July at the latest. Remember to confirm your study place in time!

8. Accepting a study place

Corfirmation of the study place is binding and cannot be altered or cancelled. You will lose the study place if you do not accept it by the deadline. As a rule only one study place is offered at the highest possible application preference. In joint application all the lower application preferences will be cancelled automatically when admitted to higher preference.

Study place can be confirmed online through secure-link provided to your email address.

You can accept only one study place at higher aducation institution in Finland starting at the same academic year (1st August – 31st July)

9. Reserve places

If you have not been admitted to any of your study options and are placed on a reserve place, you might be admitted on a later date.

You can only be placed on the waiting list for a reserve place at a higher-preference option. The reserve place can be one of the application options the student has given in the joint application. The applicant cannot choose a reserve place from options of a lower preference than that to which he/she has already been admitted.

Notice that UAS can also independently decide not to use any waiting list positions. In this case there is no option for an applicant to get admission from the waiting list if one is not among the actual intake.

10. Enrolment

All students are to enrol for attendance or non-attendance. Only the students who have enrolled for attendance have the right of study

According to the Polytechnics Act, a first-year student may register as absent for the academic year for the following reasons only:

1) service under the Conscription Act (1438/2007), Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007), or Act on Women's Voluntary Military Service (194/1995);

2) maternity, paternity or parental leave;

3) the student cannot begin studies due to being incapacitated by personal illness or injury.

Applicants who have to pay tuition fee cannot enroll until fee is paid!
