Computer and Telecommunication System Usage Regulations

1 §

All computer facilities, computers and telecommunication systems are intended for the use of teaching, studies, research and administration. VAMK examines all files and e-mails (in- as well as outgoing) with antivirus-software in order to disinfect or remove infected files. We have the right to publish e-mail addresses and web addresses on systems controlled by VAMK.

2 §

When the computer facilities are occupied, they are to be used in order of impotance as follows;

  1. Installation and Maintenance
  2. Class instucted by a teacher
  3. Working on teacher assigned projects
  4. Working on computer presentation where computers are required
  5. Writing and printing reports
  6. Internet surfing and email checking

3 §

Your personnal assigned username and password must be used whenever you are using telecommunications systems. It is strictly forbidden to give your username to anyone. It is also forbidden to use the username of someone else. If you do not have a username and password, please contact the computer administration staff. If you are caught attempting to crack the system, you will lose access to the telecommunication system, and criminal charges may be applied.

4 §

It is forbidden to install or change any program on the computer system. If you wish to have a new program installed on the system, please contact the computer administrators. You may not save any files to the hard drive unless your teacher specifies you to do so. The institute in no ways takes responsibility for any lost data that is stored on the network.

5 §

It is strictly forbidden to install or in anyway change the computer BIOS, printer, operating system or program settings. If you are found doing so, you will lose access to the telecommunication systems.

6 §

It is forbidden to damage or modify any computers, user settings or anything in the computer and telecommunications system. Chain-Letters, Anonymous email, advertising and other such activities are strictly forbidden. Students caught doing such things may lose access to the telecommunication systems.

7 §

Any attempts to break into the computer system or "Crack" the systems are forbidden with no exceptions. Any students caught doing so will be criminally prosecuted. (Finnish Criminal Code 28)

8 §

If a user should find a computer or telecommunication system where the security system has failed must notify the administration immediately. Failure to do may result in loss of priviledges.

9 §

It is forbidden to read messages or data that belongs to other people on the network. If someone comes upon any information of this sort, please contact the administrators immediately. Users found reading others messages may have their access to the network revoked.

10 §

All disks from the outside, as well as disks from inside the school must be scanned by a virus scan before using them on the network.

11 §

Should the administration staff find that anyone has violated any of the rules and regulations of the network, the administrators will conduct an investigation into the occurance. During the investigation the user(s) will lose access to the telecommunication systems, if the user is found innocent, the access will be reinstated after the investigation is through. If the user(s) are found guilty, the following measures will be taken;

  • The user(s) will not be permitted to use the telecommunication systems
  • The user(s) will not be permitted to use the computers
  • The institute will take disciplinary actions
  • The user will be forced to cover damages
  • Legal procedures will be taken

12 §

The regulations are to be found on notice-boards in the institute, the internet and on the intranet. When necessary, the Administration staff will give more information on how to use our computer facilities.
