Username and Password

From the users point of view it would be ideal if one username and one password would suffice. Unfortunately such system compatibility has yet not been made completely possible, this is because different systems develop at a different pace and we have been forced to purchase from different dealers. Despite this all main systems (Winha, Moodle, Windows and Linux) have been able to be linked together so that they all work with the same username and password.

The username is created by placing the letter e in front of the Winha student number; Winha student number 0501234 = e0501234. The centralized user account system works through a LDAP directory service which makes it possible to combine different usernames and passwords from different systems - including the Winha usernames.

Distribution of the Usernames

The student counsellor will give out the usernames after the students sign for them at the start of term. With the username it is possible for the students to use the school's computer system, email and intranet. That is why it is provided that the students acquaint themselves and agree to follow the regulations regarding the use of the computers at VAMK.

The regulations can be found at: http://www.puv.fi/study/atk-aapinen/rules/

Changing or Forgetting the Password

The username can be changed with a browser from https://secure.puv.fi/passwd.cgi, from where the new password will be distributed to all systems connected via the LDAP-system.

If you have forgotten your password, you can receive a new one from the student office. When retrieving a new password take some sort of identification with you or your ID-card. For security reasons passwords aren’t given out through email or telephone.

Validity of the User Account

The user account is valid for seven days after graduation or discontinuation of studies. The account will be automatically removed according to Winha’s attendance code. An email message about the removal will be sent to the student immediately after graduation or discontinuation. If you think this message is uncalled for then please contact the student office (opintotoimisto@puv.fi) where they will be able to tell you why your right to study has expired and your user account has been terminated.

Search Engine for Contact Information

From the intranet address http://secure.puv.fi/winha-search/ you will find a search engine which can be used to search for students' and student groups' email addresses and the contact information for the staff. Because of data security reasons the search engine is only available from inside the school network or from outside with your username and password. The contact information is meant for acknowledgements relating studies and is not allowed to use for advertising or any other private use. Staff contact information is also available at http://www.puv.fi/study/contact/.
