EnergyVaasa, the leading energy cluster in the Nordic countries, has chosen a 25-year old engineer student, Pentti Itkonen, for the Energy Ambassador 2013 position. In addition to the Vaasa region’s energy technology companies, more than 11,000 people contributed to the recruitment process by voting for their favorite applicant.

An incredible journey around the world, a possibility to network with top companies, and a chance to stand in the spotlight – that’s what makes the Energy Ambassador position Finland’s best job within the field of energy. During his journey in September-October, Itkonen will explore the Finnish cleantech industry: what it is, where in the world the solutions and products are exported, and how they affect the environment and people’s lives. The Energy Ambassador’s task is to share his experiences and the information he receives in the social media and by publishing videos.

Already at an early stage of the recruitment, Itkonen proved to be an energetic and ambitious young professional and he succeeded in inspiring and activating his audience in the social media.

– This is an amazing job opportunity and I invested a lot of time and effort into becoming the next Energy Ambassador. Now I have a unique adventure ahead of me and I’m sure it will give a real boost for my future career.

Finland can’t manage without exports and therefore the Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Finland, Alexander Stubb also wants to give his support for the Energy Ambassador’s journey.

– Pentti Itkonen will make an excellent Energy Ambassador for Team Finland. Itkonen will represent Finland and our know-how within the cleantech field. After the journey Pentti is going to have an excellent overall picture of how our know-how is applied all around the world, Stubb says.
