Living in Vaasa and Finland

Religion, Church

There has been complete freedom of worship in Finland since 1923. There are two state churches in the country, the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Orthodox, Greek-Catholic Church. Approximately 85 % of Finns are baptised as Lutherans while 1 % are born Orthodox. There are also Catholic, Jewish and Islamic congregations as well as numerous smaller religious communities. About 15 % of the population belong to some of the other religious group or do not belong to any religious denomination.

The evangelical-Lutheran parishes of Vaasa offer different kinds of activities for students (foreign and Finnish). More detailed information about these activities and their schedule you can find in the leaflets of the evangelical-Lutheran parishes and the notice boars at VAMK.
