Modern Technology in a Rebuilt Cotton Mill

The laboratories of the Faculty of Technology and Communication are situated in the in the former factory premises of Vaasa Cotton Ltd, which were renovated and finished in 1996.
This restoration of an old cotton mill was designed and implemented with respect for the original building, and was awarded as The Building of the Year in 1996 by the State Real Estate Department.
The state-of-the-art technology that is needed in engineering education, research and product development has been concentrated inside about a hectare in area. There is equipment available in the areas of electrical, mechanical,and construction engineering, and environmental and information technology.
Research and development projects are coordinated and the contracting partners' expertise is distributed and marketed to the businesses and industries in the region. Consulting services, services in the development of technical products, product concepts, and production methods are provided, as well as distribution of expertise in establishing marketing contacts and other technoeconomic (teknistaloudellinen) solutions.
The owners of Technobothnia are VAMK, University of Vaasa and Swedish Polytechnic.
