Cooperation for the benefit of the region
Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu VAMK, University of Applied Sciences is in close cooperation with other institutions of higher education in Vaasa. The community of higher education in Vaasa is internationally acknowledged and strongly affects both society and culture. The innovative concentration of higher education and research encompasses the fields of technology, business, media, and welfare services.
Tritonia is a library and learning centre shared by the institutions of higher education in Vaasa. The cooperation ensures students with large collections, expert services and extensive opening hours. The modern Tritonia building at the Palosaari sea campus is a true meeting place for students with its individual and group study rooms and a café.
The Technology Campus is a strong example of teaching and research cooperation in the field of technology in Vaasa. The Technology Campus is an operational concept developed by VAMK University of Applied Sciences, the University of Vaasa, and Novia University of Applied Sciences. The key objective is to create a joint leading centre of energy expertise, supported by the teaching and research laboratory Technobothnia. With its 2 700 engineering students, the campus is the fifth largest in Finland.
Alere (previously Medibothnia) cooperation between VAMK and Novia University of Applied Sciences is developing education and applied research in the field of health care and social services. The cooperation will provide modern and specially equipped teaching facilities and opportunities for joint teaching and teacher exchanges, which provide the students with a competitive advantage in becoming employed in the bilingual working environments of the Vaasa region. The City of Vaassa and the Vaasa Hospital District are closely involved in the project.
The aim of the Seaside Campus concept is to move the operations of the city campus to our Palosaari campus. The resulting seaside campus will host as many as 10 000 students of higher education when also the students of the neighbouring institutions of the University of Vaasa and Novia University of Applied Sciences are taken into account.
University of Vaasa is VAMK's strategic partner. Close cooperation is done in property and safety affairs, information systems services, national and international student recruitment, open university teaching, continuing education as well as research and development. Acting as neighbours at the Palosaari Campus area also supports the promotion of the Technology Campus and the Waterfront Campus concepts.
Vaasa Energy Institute VEI is a cooperation organisation of Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu (VAMK), University of Applied Sciences, the University of Vaasa and Novia University of Applied Sciences. VEI combines the fields of business and technology in a unique manner. It also offers research, consulting and continuing education to the actors in the field of energy on regional, national and international levels.
The flexible study right, i.e. the JOO agreement between institutions of higher education in Vaasa, offers students the opportunity to include studies from other institutions of higher education into their degree.
Novia University of Applied Sciences and VAMK have concluded an agreement on education collaboration that aims to strengthen our bi- and multilingual study environment and the competitiviness of our universities both in Finland and abroad.
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is VAMK’s partner in cooperation in strategic planning, clarifying the emphasis of higher education and in several support services. The idea is that both VAMK and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences serve the individual needs of their regions’ economic structure according to their profile.
Vaasa Vocational Institute (VAO) is an important partner to VAMK. A fourth of students coming to study at VAMK have a vocational degree, so it is important to have clear practices for compensation of previous studies. With VAO, a smooth study path is promoted in preparatory studies of mathematics and languages for studying at the University of Applied Sciences. In technical studies, common equipment and facilities are also utilised.
