Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu VAMK, University of Applied Sciences aims to offer a good working environment for both its students and staff and to advance competence by cooperating with the business life of the region. Quality is everybody’s business and a part of the everyday at Vamk. It concerns students, teachers, research and development staff, support staff and management.
In order to develop the education, we collect feedback from students on individual courses and the whole degree programme. Representatives of the working life affect the planning of education through the close cooperation regarding theses and work placements. Important matters regarding the working life are discussed in field-specific advisory councils. In order to develop the education, all teachers also have the opportunity for international and national networking, project work and further education. The top management acts as the control group of quality work as well as defines and decides the quality policies. Continuous improvement is pursued with self-evaluations and managerial inspections.
The essential contents of quality management is available to everyone at VAMK in the form of an electronic manual which clearly and concretely defines the objectives, activities, actors and their respective responsibilities. Strategies, process descriptions and feedback systems together with periodic self-evaluations connect the quality system to the objectives, activities and operations control of VAMK.
The quality assurance system of Vaasa University of Applied Sciences passed the audit of the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council in 2008. The audit is valid for six years. The Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council acts as an independent expert body whose purpose is to assist polytechnics and the Ministry of Education in evaluating institutions of higher education and, thus, to improve the quality of higher education.
